Ryan Hunter’s parties are legend. And tonight she’s going to be there.
Liza Matthews anticipates the return of her best friend and only love since kindergarten from soccer camp. But when Tony finally shows up, his mind is more focused on another girl. And worse, she’s a soccer player. Fighting for the attention Liza craves, she’s just a hairbreadth away from making a very stupid decision. But when extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures, she’s prepared to play ball to get her man.
The tryouts are hell, the first match ends bloody, and the morning after the selection party she wakes up in the worst place possible—in the arms of the captain of the soccer team. The hottest guy in school. Ryan Hunter.
Interview
With us today is the lovely author of Play With Me, Piper Shelly!
Hello everyone! Thank you for stopping by to hang out with me today. :-)
Can you introduce yourself by giving us 7 words that describe you?
Introvert…Outgoing (when friends are around)…Creative…Caring…Strong-willed (tendency toward stubborn)…Write-aholic…Fair.
Please, can I do one more? I’m always super friendly. :-)
When and how did your passion for writing start?
I always loved to write. Even if it was only copying Juliette’s monologue onto the backside of my sketchpad in extra beautiful handwriting. Later I started writing short stories, mostly in form of a wish-diary.
What was the first story you ever wrote? What was it about?
OMG, don’t ask me that, because it’s too embarrassing…
All right, I can hear you complain now, so I’ll tell you the deets but no names. It was a revolving romance between me and the guy I was totally in love with. I never met him in person. He was a singer in a band. I read that book out to my friend when we camped in her garden. After that I burned it, so no one would ever read it. It was just too intimate, LOL.
Do you love reading as much as writing? What are some of your favorite books?
I do, but I hardly find enough time to read all the books I want. Some of my favorite books are ALL the Love At Stake books by Kerrelyn Sparks, Harry Potter, and then some.
Who are your favorite authors and writing influences?
Jay Crownover has a fantastic voice, and so does my critique partner, Georgia Lyn Hunter. They all are very inspiring writers.
Can you tell us about Play With Me in 7 words as well?
Playful…light…sickly-romantic…jealousy…sexy…unexpected…pool table.
Who’s your favorite character?
Out of Play With Me? OMG, are you serious? I’m totally in love with Ryan Hunter… You know, I can swoon over my own characters, too, not just you. ;-)
If you could pick one theme song for Play With Me, what would it be and why?
Sean Paul – She doesn’t mind.
I have an entire play list for all my books, but this is the one song I listened to most while I wrote Play With Me. I totally could see Liza arriving at the party, making her way through a bumping and grinding crowd, and finally spotting Ryan Hunter leaning with one shoulder in the doorway. It’s their song.
Are you currently working on any books? What should we expect from you next?
Right now I’m trying to finish the third book in the Grover Beach Team series. It’s called T. is for…He’s a total jerk. Samantha Summers meets Tony Mitchell, and they don’t have a smooth start. After that, I’ll take a little break from the Grover Beach Team and write or finish a few other stories I was thinking about for a couple of years now.
What would you like to say to your readers?
Thank you for hanging in there with me! You’re awesome. And did you know that writing a review for a book that you liked is like a hug for the author? I got so many of them from you, and I appreciate each single one of them. :-)
Keep the smile up, guys! -Piper
