Happy 2016, lovely readers! Now that the new year has arrived, I’m excited to read a whole lot of books! I read very casually last year and while it was very relaxed, I didn’t have a direction so there was not that much assortment to my reading.
So today, I’m listing some 2016 reading resolutions to improve my reading selections this year, as well as sharing a free printable to help you keep track of your reading!
Read 120 Books
Earlier today, I decided to take on the Goodreads reading challenge again and chose to read 120 books. I did 100 and 150 the past two years but both have not been very optimal so I thought I’d try the in between. Since I’ll have an actual summer break this year, I think this my reading goal is gonna be achievable.
Diversify Further
Last year was a good year for diverse books and I’m excited for more this 2016. I already have a list of the diverse books I wasn’t able to get to last year and those that will be released this year and I can’t wait to read them!
Start/Continue/Finish Some Series
I feel like I read way too few series books last year and I hope to change that this 2016, especially since I have a lot of series I wanna marathon!
Read A Lot Of Middle-Grade Books
I fell in love with MG again after reading Corey Ann Haydu’s Rules For Stealing Stars so I’ve resolved to read more Middle Grade this year. I’m aiming to read 30 MG books specifically.
Listen To More Audiobooks
I really got into audiobooks last 2015 and I want to listen to more this 2016! I already have several saved up credits and I’m eager to use them up!
Venture Different Genres Frequently
I realized how I’ve been reading too few books from different genres when I filled out the 2015 End of Year Book Survey and while I’m fond of contemporary forever, it’s time to find more sci-fi, fantasy and historical books to love.
Try Some Non-Fiction
After reading Humans of New York last week, it’s come to my attention that the list of non-fiction books I’ve ever read is way too short. And that just won’t do.
Support Filipino Authors
There’s been a huge boost to books by local authors recently (which makes me so happy) and I plan to get to reading them this year. I also really want to support half-Filipino authors like Roshani Chokshi and Erin Estrada Kelly with their upcoming 2016 releases!
Keep Regular Reading Notes
My final reading resolution. The more I read, the more I get book amnesia. Making notes while reading helps me retain more info but I haven’t done much of it lately which resulted to fewer book reviews here on the blog. Thankfully, the 2016 Book Blog Planner has a helpful book review notes page and I plan to make use of it! (It’s on sale btw! Just enter HAPPY2016 when you buy a copy.)
Now onto that freebie I mentioned…
I’ve created a simple reading printable for all you book lovers out there! There’s two pages- one for longer notes and one for shorter ones where you can have two books in one sheet. I hope you’ll find them useful. :)
What are your reading resolutions for 2016? Did you download the reading printable? How is the new year treating you so far?

HAPPY NEW YEAR! And thank you so much for the freebie!
I absolutely love your goals. I really want to read more MG as there so many good ones out there! I also want to read more non-fiction. I actually read an autobiography last week titled Hope in a Ballet Shoe by Michaela DePrince – it’s amazing and I highly recommend it!
Best of luck with your goals!
Those are some great resolutions! I myself want to read more nonfiction and I really appreciate the goal to read more middle grade! I love middle grade and read a lot of it.
I made a list of my January goals and that includes to read at least 2 books. Hehe. I hope I could read more in the future.
We mostly have the same goals, Hazel! I want to diversify the books I’m reading as well. 2015 brought me a lot of books that expanded my preferences! I’ve also started to read more fantasy books, compared to my usual contemporary and dystopian picks. I’m also stoked to support more Filipino authors! I’m still bummed I missed Roshani @ Fully Booked last Wednesday! Haha! And I’ve started to keep reading notes last year and I’m definitely doing it again this year (with your freebie!!!! <333)
Happy New Year, Hazel! :) Congratulations on reading so many books, I need to read more this year! I probably should also *finally* try listening to an audiobook, I’ve been saying I will for so long now haha. Love your freebie!
Happy New Year, Hazel! I’m cheering you on as you work to accomplish all of these goals, and I’m especially loving that you want to branch out into other genres ;)
